Incan Administration
-The Incas ruled as a military and administrative elite
-the armies were composed mostly of conquered peoples
-they took people hostage and made them live at the capital (Cuzco) to encourage obedience
-when conquered peoples became uncooperative the Incas sent loyal subjects as colonists and provided them with a choice of lad and economic benefits
-when conquered peoples rebelled Inca armies forced them to leave their homes and resettle in distant parts of the empire
-The Incas had no written script so they made the quipo to keep records
- The Quipu consisted of cords of various lengths that were specifically knotted to indicate information such as population, taxes, labor services, etc.
- It provided some information of the empire's history
- It allowed Inca bureaucrats to keep track of information to run the empire.
