Education and Practice

Progression

With his father being a well-to-do architect and mathematician Galen was able to attain a rigorous education in philosophy, mathematics, grammar, logic, and natural sciences. His philosophical studies included delves into the schools of the Platonists, the Peripatetics, the Stoics, and the Epicureans. Eventually he was put on the path of a medical career.

When his father died Galen decided to continue studies. He travelled to places like Smyrna, Corinth, and Alexandria where he spent 5 years learning about anatomy.

After that he spent time practicing his trade back in his hometown and getting practical experience.

Next up on the map for him was Rome where he published most of his treatises, gained fame, and practiced until his retirement.
