The plot was mostly the same in the book and movie with a few changes. One similarity is when Joey gets stuck in "no man's land" and survives until people find him. One difference is when Joey and Topthorn are with a girl named Emilie and her grandfather, and they get taken. In the book, they get taken while they are in their stables, but in the movie, Emilie is riding Joey and Topthorn at their side when the calvary come to take them.
