Explain why the British were interested in establishing colonies in Southeast Asia.
The Dutch had previously started to colonize in Southeast Asia, and found it rich in cash crops such as sugar, tea, coffee, tobacco, and exports of rubber and tin. The British also saw the Irrawaddy river delta as a great economic opportunity, and a good port for their naval services.
