Special types of cell/tissue

Regenerating ear hair cells: scientists have discovered which stem cells can become hair cells as well as molecules that cause this change. Researchers are developing techniques to grow hair cells in labs and implant them into the ear.

Stem cells can be used to screen drugs that could stimulate the generation of hair cells.

Scientist have learned how to coax stem cells into becoming brain cells. Stem cells derived auditory neurons are transported and the neurons help broken connections in hearing.

Sensory hair
cells play a big role in hearing loss.

Hearing loss related to brain
tissue loss: scientist say that people with diminished hearing lost more than an additional cubic centimeter of brain tissue each year compared to people with normal hearing.
