History of Krewes

The earliest Mardi Gras was believed to have been in 1882 in southwest Louisiana. The first Miss Mardi Gras was Christine Marie Campbell in 1983. The different Krewes have a different story. For example Krewes du feteurs or merrymakers was formed by friends who just wanted to have a good time. This started in 1984. There are bigger Krewes like the Krewe de la Noblesse began in 1985. They have a limit of 200 people and to be a member you have to be invited. They even have "royal courts" for Krewes they are chosen by the luck of the draw. It was made just "to celebrate Mardi Gras in the traditional New Orleans style." This being said the is no right or wrong way to celebrate as long as you have a good time.
