The first way that friendship and loyalty was shown in the book was when Isaac goes blind but Hazel and Augustus stay loyal and help him through his new life. They help him take his anger out be try to comfort him. This process for Isaac would be so much harder for Isaac without the help of his friends

The second example is when Augustus dies, Hazel still keeps in touch with Isaac. They grieve together and feel the pain of Augustus' death together.
