Why?

Radar works by sending out radio waves and detecting any reflection from distant objects.  Radar helped  during ww2 because it helped detect aircraft and ships  earlier. These were called detection radar. Fire control radars are radar like a spot light. And could help aim the guns of aircrafts and ships without even being able to see it. Fire control radar was usually used by night fighters.
