Chapter 1:
1. Anatomy: The study of the structure of body parts and their relationships to one another. It is a concrete study.
subdivisions of anatomy:
Gross or macroscopic anatomy: the study of large body structures visible to the naked eye, including heart, lungs, kidney.
regional anatomy: all the structures in a particular region of the body are studied at the same time
systematic anatomy: anatomy of the body is studied system by system
surface anatomy: the study of internal structures as they relate to the overlying skin surface
microscopic anatomy: anatomy of structures too small to be seen by the naked eye cytology: considers the cells of a body
histology: the study of tissues
developmental anatomy: traces structural changes that occur in the body throughout the lifespan
embryology: anatomy that concerns developmental changes that occur before
birth
Physiology: concerns the function of the body, how the body part s work and carry out their lifesustaining activities. Physiology reveals the bodies dynamic nature.
renal physiology: concerns kidney function and urine production
neurophysiology: explains all the workings of the nervous system
cardiovascular physiology: examines the operation of the heart and the blood vessels
