During World War II the Americans and the British knew they had the create a massive attack to undermine Hilter's forces. The Allies worked together to make a massive deception operation intended to compel the Germans to believe that the Allies were going to attack Pas-de-Calais using fake equipment, radio transmissions, and double agents. Operation Overlord was scheduled for June 5th but due to weather conditions the operation was pushed back one day. That night, more than 5,000 ships and landing crafts left England for the invasion. The morning of June 6, 1944 the Allies successfully landed on Normandy's beaches but faced about 2,000 American casualties. A week later, the beaches were fully secured with huge success over the confused Germans.
