Ponyboy is a 14 year old teenager who is completely different from the rest of the gang. Reasons being is he is extremely intelligent and likes to read books. He is also more understanding. But he doesn't have common sense.

Suddenly it wasn't only a personal thing to me. I could picture hundreds and hundreds of boys living on the wrong sides of cities . . . Hundreds of boys who who maybe watched sunsets and looked at stars and ached for something better.

I'm painting my room in the colourful way and when my mind is wandering there I will go . . .

And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong if I'm right.
