The Battle Write-Up
Way back in 1863 on April 30th - May 6th the battle of Chancellorsville took place. The general of the Union, Joseph Hooker decided to take a risk and cross the Rapphannock River with his army of 97,000 soldiers. General Joseph hooker took up a position of defense in preparation of General Robert E. Lee's 57,000 man army's attack. Within the first few days of battle both armies were left disoriented and left in areas of tangled wilderness. Although the union fought strong, they were no match for the confederate army. Lee received information that the other army had began to cross the Rappahannock River and they were gaining on them from the east. This gave him the upper hand. Once again, Lee divided his army and they met and defeated this new threat. Things such as things drug on for two long months until the union couldn't take it anymore, the confederate army won. In the end, the Union suffered 14,000 casualties, and the Confederates suffered 10,000. The battle bumped up Lee's ego giving him the confidence that led him to lead his second invasion of the north and set the mood for him to fight in the battle of Gettysburg.
