What Are the Symptoms of Schizophrenia?
· Positive symptoms include:
· Heightened perceptions
· People may feel that their senses are being flooded by
sights and sounds, making it impossible to attend to
anything important
· Hallucinations – sensory perceptions that occur in the
absence of external stimuli
· Most common are auditory
· Seem to be spoken directly to, or overheard by, the
hallucinator
· Hallucinations can involve any of the other senses: tactile,
somatic, visual, gustatory, or olfactory
· Inappropriate affect – emotions that are unsuited to the
situation
