* March 12, 1930 he began a march at sea, protesting the law against selling salt
* He and 78 others marched 241 miles and made illegal salt from sea water
* Arrested on May 5
* Satyagraha continued the protests
* January 1931 he was released from prison
* Met with Lord Irwin, viceroy of India, to discuss Indian freedom
* Called off Satyagraha for India's future
* Lord Irwin didn't help Indians, but took note of Gandhi
* Indian independence was granted in August of 1947
