John Dalton preformed many experiments on mixtures of gases to determine what effect the properties of the individual gases had in the properties of the whole mixture. Due to the results of the experiments, he hypothesized that the sizes if the particles making up different gases must be different. We know now that not all of Dalton's theories are correct.
