Aims of Ethics for Professional Educators
So, what is the aim of ethics for Professional Educators?
- Enhance moral principles within educational contexts:
. the quality of moral perception depends upon the quality of the moral that persons use to interpret actions
and situations
(i.e. concepts that determine what will count as morally relevant features of situations).
- Enhance students moral perceptions and sensitivity - attention to detail in problematic situation in which appropriate moral judgement and action is to be determined **
. applying moral concepts relate to the educational context.
- Increase the depth and richness of moral and other concepts that inform moral perceptions (enhance
existing concepts and introduce new concepts.
**How can this be accomplished?
. Discuss and deliberate on actual problems
. provide students with a broader range of exemplars of moral concepts & reasons
. acquaint students with the meaning of particular moral concepts & their relationships with other moral
concepts
. introducing new moral concepts - provides an opportunity for extending the range & complexity of their sets
of moral concepts.
*Moral perception = Our ability to judge important moral qualities in particular situations
*Moral Reasoning = thinking process with the objective of determining whether an idea is right or wrong.
