Puberty is the stage of human development when girls start to change into women, and boys into men.

Girls normally go through this stage from the age of 11 to 16, and boys from 13 to 18.

This is the stage when their reproductive systems start to mature; boys produce sperm and girls release ova.

The physical appearance of boys and girls also changes:

Puberty

- In boys, their chest and back get wider, they grow hair on their faces, pubic region and armpits and their voices become deeper.

- In girls, their breasts develop, they grow hair on their pubic region and armpits, and their hips widen.
