In the 1950's, Middle Class white Americans left cities for the suburbs


The rural poor migrated to inner cities


African Americans moved from rural south to urban areas

The White Flight brought about the urban crisis


Cities lost people and businesses as well as properties and taxes


Schools, public transportation, police and fire departments could not be maintained


The urban poor suffered


People in the suburbs were unaware of urban poverty and refused to believe it existed
