The end of Auschwitz

In 1945 the reign of one of the largest most gruesome death camps was coming to an end.

The germans and leaders of Auschwitz knew the war was coming to an end, they set fire to buildings, as well as blown up. Records were destroyed. In early 1945, as the Soviet army entered Krakow the Germans ordered Auschwitz be abandoned.

The Germans took 60,000 detainees and sent them to towns 30 miles away, guarded by Nazi guards, most detainees did not survive but the ones who did were sent to other concentration camos. This is also known as the death marches.
