Description of disorder

A bone growth disorder that causes disproportionate dwarfism. People with achondroplasia are short in stature with a normal sized torso and short limbs.

Occurrence

Achondroplasia is rare with an estimated occurrence between 1 in every 10,000 to 30,000 live births. This birth rate translates to about 10,000 to 30,000 people with achondroplasia in the USA. A person with achondroplasia has a 50% chance of passing on the condition with each pregnancy.i
