The South China Tiger - Panthera Tigris Amoyensis - is a tiger subspecies with a yellow-brown coat with black stripes. These big cats are found in the montane- subtropical evergreen forests of southeast China. The species is one of the smallest of the tiger species, in which its size allows it to move though the dense jungles more easily. Like other carnivorous tiger species, the South China tiger is known to be a strong and capable swimmer, often able to catch its prey when its in the water. The female South China tiger gives birth to up to 5 cubs. Newborn cubs weigh about 1 kg (2 lb) and are blind and helpless. South China tiger cubs depend on their mother for the first 18 months and then they start hunting on their own.
