1. The church as Institution: St. Catherine influences many people, even the pope at that time. She fought tirelessly for the crusade against the Turks, and for peace between Florence and the pope.

2. The church as The Body of Christ: "we are related to one another by family." St. Catherine aided to many people at the time of the Black Death. She treated everyone like her brothers and sisters of God, and put others before herself. She aided to and buried people after they had died from the Black Death, risking her life, doing a corporal work of mercy of burying the dead.
