What are GMOs?
Genetically Modified Organism - An organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there
How are organisms genetically modified?
Scientists take a plant and change it by adding DNA from another plant. A number of animals have been genetically engineered to increase yield and decrease susceptibility to disease.
Example: Salmon have been engineered to grow larger and mature faster. Cattle have been enhanced to exhibit resistance to mad cow disease.
