Hypothesis

Why did the Egyptians use salt in their mummification process? What is its purpose scientifically? What will happen to my mummy potato?

I think the Egyptians truly believe their was an afterlife, and if they want their pharaohs to go there, they must be able to preserve the body so the "body" can easily go there. This also leads to my scientific version. Salt can remove the water in cells so they dry out and preserve. The salt will help stop the body decompose. That's what I believe for the more scientific version. For the last question, in my senses slide, I explain the potato seems wet and slimy. I think because the salt will remove all the water, my potato will shrink in size and become more wrinkled because in my observations, almost half of the potato is water. Those are my hypothesis for those 3 questions
