John Washington Butler believed the teachings of evolution would make kids disregard the Bible. He saw it entirely as children going home and saying Christian faith was nonsense. It was because of this he pushed the state legislation to pass a series of laws that would keep religion fully in tact in schools. The only law that passed was the Butler Act. Under the Butler Act, schools would have to fully enforce the Christian ideas of the beginning of man. This also made it against the law to teach evolution.
