The Victorian Era, named after Queen Victoria, began in 1837 when she ascended to the throne at the age of 18 following the death of her uncle, William IV. Victoria was born on the 24th May, 1819. Her reign lasted 64 years until her death in 1901 at the age of 81.
Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg Gotha was the husband of Queen Victoria. He was her first cousin on her mother's side (ew). They had nine children. When Albert died in 1861, Victoria was depressed for months and refused to wear anything but black for the rest of her life.
