The Cold War is different than any war in our history because of the way it was fought. No actual battling occurred as each side sat in wait for the other side to strike first. This war was fought mainly between two superpowers over who would gain the right as the greater superpower. Though the fighting differs from many other instances in the past, certain conflicts remain the same. America placed themselves in between other countries issues in hopes of stopping the spread of communism and changing them to a democracy. This is the same idea as when the English came over to the Americas and tried to teach the Natives their religion and culture. Battles broke out often at that time because people often are not cooperative with stronger foreign influences coming in and changing things. The natives did not win as they were underestimated, but the battle right now is still going. In retaliation to American choices, the World Trade Center was bombed among other places and the terrorist attacks continue. A growing sense of animosity towards Americans is emerging and very hard to stop once set in motion. The United States has an obligation to learn from past events and stop the wheel that is in motion.
