The two species live together and compete for seeds. During the dry seasons it is hard force he finches to find seeds to eat.
Competition & more evolution
Species with smaller beaks have a better advantage in getting seeds then a finch with an average size beak. The finches with the smaller size beak can get very small seeds that the average size beak could not get.
