Bystander Apathy Experiment

Students (experimental group) were asked to have a conversation with another student who is in a separate room over an intercom

The other end of the conversation was actually a recording of a person having a censure (control). ( this was unknown to the subjects)

On the first experiment, they had the students in groups of one- they responded almost every time and left their room to find help.

Next they did the same thing, but with larger groups of people. In this experiment, it was rare for anyone to take action to find help.

Data was collected by video/ cameras.

There were no stated ethical problems with this experiment, (permissible today probably)
