Election of 1820
Monroe's main opposition was from a member of his own party, William H. Crawford. Democratic Republicans cast their support to Monroe over Crawford. Also running was Rufus King of the splintered Federalist Party. He was never formally endorsed by his party, leading to Monroe's win. In 1816, Electoral College: 183 for Monroe, 34 for King. In 1820, Monroe ran unopposed.
