Manners in Laos

- Do not touch someone's head. If you do apologise immediately.

- Do not touch somebody with your feet, or point with your feet. Since they are on your lower body they are the least sacred.

- Do not put your feet on tables or chairs.

- When you are giving someone something, give it with both hands or your right hand, as you left hand is associated with toilet duties.

- Your feet are considered to be the lower part of your body, meaning they are less important. If you use your feet for anything other than walking or playing, it is considered to be rude.

- Do not step over someone in your path, or over food. Some people won't even eat the food after it being stepped over.
