Environmental Challenges of Taiga Biome
Humans have a very large impact on the taiga. By cutting down forests, animals habitats are
destroyed leaving them exposed to the elements. Mining not only pollutes the soil, but also fill
streams with waste harming fish.
Scientists believe that one of the best ways to reserve the Taiga is to protect what is left of the
biome. In Canada, 50% of the taiga biome has been allowed for deforestation. Only 8% of the
Canadian taiga is under protection. By increasing the amount of land under protection and
limiting the land that can be ruined, we can increase the amount of saved habitats.
