Political unified society
Originally, both French and British Canadians occupied Canada. Through agreements with Great Britain, they were able to avoid war and come to an agreement about their own autonomy. However, the provinces were still divided and wanted political autonomy and self government. When John A. Macdonald became the first Canadian Prime Minister, he purchased more land and built a transcontinental railway in order to connect the different territories and unify the different provinces.
