THE EXPERIMENT

Wood Pulp

Petrochemicals

Lignin, a biopolymer, is found in wood pulp and can be used to make imitation vanillin.

Due to its highly corrosive property which would have to be balanced with strong acids, this method is rarely used.

A petrochemical called Guaiacol is utilized in a way in order to create vanillin. This way being more effective and safe is more commonly used.
