When Charlie is asked to stay away for a bit because he showed feelings for Sam while he was with Mary Elizabeth, Patrick gets beat up by some guys for being gay. Charlie, who has nothing against his friends, jumps in and beats up all of the guys on his own and helps Patrick. This shows the friendship between Charlie and Patrick and the loyalty Charlie has even though he was asked to stay away.
