The protein construction teams of the cell are ribosomes. These small, grainlike bodies are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. Other ribososmes float freely in the cytoplasm. The ribosomes create the cell's food (protein) so the cell can survive. The process of making a string protein is this. The mRNA (messenger RNA) passes inbetween the two subunits. The amino acids and the tRNA (transfer RNA) are added to the mRNA. After the mRNA comes out, it is now a string of protein. That string gets transported to the golgi body to be distributed througout the cell. Every cell needs ribosomes whether it has a nucleus (eukaryotes) or no nucleus (prokaryotes).
What are Ribosomes? What do they do? How do they do it?
