During the Roman times, the Romans used aqueducts to transport water to their towns and cities. To accomplish this task, they built a bridge with arches so that the water stream will flow over cracks in the earth and flow without an interruption. Nowadays, present-day aqueducts mainly rely on pipes and pumps to get water to other towns.
