The Billiard Ball:

Hitting the billiard ball (8 ball) into any of the hole is an instant loss in the game of billiards (pool). This is symbolic of how "there was a hole the size of a billiard through his chest" (340) the 8 ball made a hole through Bloom's heart and killed him.
