This story is very related to Frankenstein. Both stories are about scientists who created something that they didn't understand which ended up significantly harming them. This being said, they both follow the theme of "consequences of human invention". The monster killed Frankenstein's brother, friend, and wife and the antigravity device killed Bloom himself. We can see Bloom's lack of understanding when after he dies Priss says, "Bloom did not explain, and, I fear, could not explain. If he had only experimented further first; if he had only not been so foolishly anxious to put on his show."
