The Scramble for Africa
A. The "Scramble for Africa" is the popular name for the invasion, occupation, colonization and annexation of African territory by European powers during the period of New Imperialism, between 1881 and 1914. It is also called the Partition of Africa and the Conquest of Africa.
B. It heightened nationalist rivalries.
The Berlin conference was held by European countries to establish rules for the colonization of Africa. This led to a systemic overthrow and colonization of Africa by European nations.
