Ulysses S. Grant- Union army

Grant was born on April 27 of 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio to Jesse Grant (leather tanner) and wife Hannah S. Grant. Grants birth name was Hiram Ulysses Grant. Grant graduated from West Point in 1843, 21st of 39 students. After graduation he served sometime in the Mexican War ams was know for getting food and supplies during the roughest terrains. August 22 of 1849, Grants married Julia Dent who was introduced to him by her cousin. After he resigned from the army, he tried many things but did not have any lucky but soon started operating a farm I'm Missouri with a slave given to him by his slaveholding father-in-law. Soon he was in debt. Grant has engaged in many battles (Battle of Fort Donelson, Siege of Vicksburg, Chattanooga Campaign, and more). May 19, the first of his troopers arrived to the northeast end of Vicksburg and commanded that Sherman made an assault. As Grant and his troops settled, they dug trenches that were close to town. July 3, Pemberton surrendered his outnumbered garrison along with the town. The next day, Grant accepted the surrender. 1868, Grant became the 18th president as a Republican candidate. 1872, he was reelected. During his second term, the people went into the panic of 1873. Third time to get him elected failed in 1880. In 1884, Grants was diagnosed with advanced cancer in the tongue and soon dies on July 23 of 1885 in Wilton, New York.
