Most of Iraq experiences two seasons: summer (May to October) and winter (November to April). Summers are characterized by average daily high temperatures well over 100°F (38°C) and by high humidity (particularly in the south). Sandstorms are common in the summertime. Winter brings thunderstorms and average daily highs of 70°F (21°C). Mountainous northern Iraq has four distinct seasons and moderate winter snowfall.
