Dalí opened his very own museum in 1974. Teatro Museo Dalí was a new building formed from one of Dalí's surrealist designs.
The museum features the world's widest variety of work by Dalí himself.
Also in 1974, all rights to Dalí's collection were sold without his permission by other business managers. Dalí lost much of his wealth as a result.
Two successful art collectors from the U.S. set up an organization to help boost Dalí's finances called "Friends of Dalí."
The funds collected from the organization helped Dalí get back on his feet and establish the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
