Night 1
That night
I didn't purchase a Pullmans sleeping cart so I didn't have a comfy place to sleep, an older man about the age my grandfather would be today. He could see that I was struggling to get comfortable. He invited me into his cart. We ate broiled muttonchops, breaded veal cutlets, there was even a choice to eat buffalo we washed it all down with French champagne. While eating he told me great stories of the gold rush in 49 and the construction of these mile long railroads. He had been 31 when he found gold the first time, he also told me a story about nitroglycerin that ended many lives. I didn't catch the mans name but I could tell he was a business man, he knew an awful lot about the railroads.
