Day 3
The Dale Creek Crossing was completed in 1868 in southeastern Wyoming, and presented engineers of the United States transcontinental railroad one of their most difficult challenges. Dale Creek Bridge is the longest bridge on the Union Pacific Railroad, it reached 150 feet above Dale Creek. The eastern side to the bridge, was the highest elevation on the UP, 8,247 feet. It required cutting through granite for nearly a mile.
The longest tunnel so far has been in the Donner Pass and after two years of blasting through the solid rock, the 1,659 foot long Summit Tunnel at Donner Pass was finally completed.
