Albert- the protagonist in the story that makes robots for every single thing that he does. Albert is dumb; however, invents a numerous amount of robots every day.

Hunchy- a robot made by Albert because he had no hunch on why he was cast down so much. "In most ways this was the worst robot he ever made. In building it, he tried to express something of his unease the future. It was an awkward thing in mind and mechanism, a misfit." (161)
