The American forces were going through a tough time right before the Crossing . They had been pushed back from New York to Pennsylvania. Many of General Washington's men were injured and ready to leave the army. The number of his troops got smaller and smaller as winter approached. The army needed a victory. The win gave them a huge boost to the American soldiers. The outcome of the battle was it gave Americans a confidence boost and they believed they could win the battle and they ended up winning.
