Iroquois
- settled in woodlands east of the Mississippi River
- 5 main nations, ( Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca)
- worked together to capture other Native American tribes and European immigrants
- settlements were surrounded by wooden palisades
- longhouses were very important & housed multiple related families
- women were very prominent in their culture & had the responsibility of supervising the cultivation of fields and running the household
- men took care of things outside of the village - hunting, fishing, & war
