Extinction
Fire At Adventureland
The Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) extinction event, formerly known as theCretaceous–Tertiary (K–T) extinction,[b] was a mass extinction of some three-quarters of plant and animal species on Earth—including all non-avian dinosaurs—that occurred over a geologically short period of time 66 million years ago. It marked the end of theCretaceous period and with it, the entire Mesozoic Era, opening the Cenozoic Era which continues today.
Fire gutted a building of shops near the front gate of Adventureland amusement park on February 20, 2010. No one was hurt in the blaze that brought firefighters from Altoona, Ankeny, Johnston and Pleasant Hill at about 4:30 p.m. At the height of the fire, black smoke could be spotted as far away as the Des Moines airport, witnesses said. The cause of the fire was believed to be a ceiling that collapsed in the toy store and sparked an electrical fire.
