Both Gordon and Jerry retired in 1997. They both kept busy serving the community well as businessmen, husbands, and fathers. Jerry owned a floor covering business in Altoona, and Gordon owned the Altoona Herald.

Other volunteer firemen from previous years were Fire Chief Morris Hickman, who served before Gordon. Other volunteers were Jerry Whetstone, Jerry Brubaker, Greg Gill, Larry Lawson, Dave Evans, and others that served later.

They were all dedicated firefighters, along with their other jobs, and caring for their families.

A 1950s era Fire Department hat, along with other items, was donated to the Altoona Area Historical Museum by the Altoona Fire Department.
